MARC supports our community in many ways. Recent events include: December 7, 2006 was the annual MARC Holiday luncheon held at 103 West. This meeting is always a wonderful time to see old friends and meet new ones. For the 8th consecutive year the membership contributed to the Toys for Tots program. On November 2, 2006 a group of MARC members took time out of their busy schedules to give back to the community. The members that participated were: Jan Ferguson, Valerie Darling, Carolyn Cherry, Jim Elder, Sharon Duncan, Linda Schulte, Andy Orlin, John Deak, Sharon Adkinson Karen Peck, Wallace Hitt, Phil Potzka, Renae Rollen, Jim Bause, Mack Zittrouer, George Fell, Jill Knicely, and Randy Hudson. According to America's Second Harvest, over 25 million Americans sought emergency food assistance from local food banks and their nonprofit partners during 2005. An afternoon of hard work brought rewarding results with the group packaging 8,563 pounds which will make 5,708 meals. Founded in 1979, the Atlanta Community Food Bank (a member of America's Second Harvest, The Nation's Food Bank Network, www.secondharvest.org) currently distributes almost 2 million pounds of food and other donated grocery items monthly to more than 800 nonprofit partner agencies in 38 counties in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia. Distributing these donations to low-income Georgians, their partner agencies provide dynamic links between the local community, the Food Bank and their supporters.
